EMDR Therapy in Utah and Idaho

What is EMDR Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR Therapy) is an empirically proven type of psychotherapy that enables healing from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. This treatment is specifically used to treat anxiety, PTSD, and trauma. EMDR therapy demonstrates that the mind can actively heal from psychological trauma much like the body recovers from physical trauma.

Highland Springs Specialty Clinic is one of the top treatment centers for EMDR therapy in Utah and Idaho where therapists are specially trained in providing exceptional and successful EMDR treatment.

How Does EMDR Therapy Work?

An EMDR specialist uses a bar of lights that cover the width of a visual field and guides the patient through the intervention using the person’s own rapid, rhythmic eye movements to dampen the power of emotionally charged memories of past trauma. The lights help the patient focus on a factor outside of the brain to break the cycle of recurring traumatic memories. Before and after each session, the client may be asked to rate their level of distress.

By using EMDR for a variety of different disorders, EMDR specialists can help the patient process traumatic memories into more helpful thoughts and feelings. EMDR therapy may not be a sufficient treatment when utilized alone, however, it decreases the time in treatment and symptom reduction often begins immediately.

Symptoms Reduced or Eliminated with EMDR

  • Avoidance of memory-provoking situations
  • Reliving-type nightmares
  • Daytime flashbacks
  • Anxiety and fear
